The Angels Who Remind Me to Stay

I have learned that angels don't always have halos. Sometimes, they walk beside you on two legs. Sometimes, they walk beside you on four. Sometimes, they have wings and watch quietly from above. And sometimes, they simply appear in the smallest moments—when you need them most—without ever knowing just how much they are saving you. Since cancer entered my life, I have come to see my angels differently. There are days when fear is louder than hope. Days when scans, numbers, appointments, and unanswered questions can make the future feel frighteningly uncertain. Days when I wonder what tomorrow will bring and wish, just for a moment, that I could see beyond it. And then my angels show up. They don't always know what to say. They don't have to. They smile at me. They hug me. They kiss me. They reach for my hand. They sit beside me. They make me laugh. They listen when I need to talk and stay when I don't. Some have four paws and remind me with every wag, nuzzle, or lick that love doesn't require words. Others watch over me from a place I cannot see, reminding me that love doesn't disappear simply because someone is no longer standing beside you. They would give me the world if they could. But I've realized something profound: They already give me everything I need. They remind me that I am still here. That I matter. That I am loved. That I am wanted. That I am needed. And perhaps most importantly, they remind me that I still have reasons to wish, to dream, to want, to laugh, to keep moving, and to feel joy. Cancer may have changed the way I look at my life, but it has also changed the way I see the people and souls surrounding it. I notice the little things now. A smile. A hand held a little longer. A kiss on my forehead. A warm body curled beside me. A familiar face walking through the door. Things I may have once taken for granted now feel like gifts. Beautiful, extraordinary gifts. My angels don't make the fear disappear. They simply make sure I never face it alone. And when the uncertainty becomes overwhelming, they somehow remind me of something I don't want to forget: I am still alive. And maybe that is the greatest gift my angels have given me—not the promise that everything will be easy, or that I will never be afraid again, but the quiet certainty that I am not finished. They keep me looking forward. They keep me reaching. They keep me hoping. They keep me here. And for that, I am in awe. Because perhaps the greatest miracle isn't that angels can save us from what we're facing. Perhaps it's that they remind us, in the middle of it all, why we want to stay.

Tote-Tally Supported, inc.

Tote-tally Supported is a grassroots nonprofit organization serving the Tampa Bay Area of Florida. Founded by myself, Brenae Solis, a stage 3C breast cancer survivor, our mission is to support local breast cancer patients by providing thoughtfully assembled tote bags filled with both essential and comfort items for individuals beginning treatment,

We believe that no one should face breast cancer alone. Through fundraising, community partnerships, and donations, Tote-tally Supported strives to ease some of the financial, physical, and emotional challenges of treatment while bringing hope, encouragement, and practical support to those who need it most.

Our goal is to make a positive impact on the mental well-being and treatment experience of breast cancer patients by reminding them that their community stands beside them every step of the way.

Together, we are more than a tote bag-we are a network of support, compassion, and hope. Together, we can make a profound difference in so many lives, one tote a a time!
